United States Supreme Court Justice Scalia said of the Magna Carta ‘it is with us every day’.   In its 800th Anniversary Year it is hard to deny this observation. Indeed, a recent New Yorker article detailed an entire industry that has developed in the lead up to the 800th anniversary.

My background was as a Crown prosecutor and legal academic in criminal law – in some ways a good preparation for politics. So I am always assessing whether a proposition can be accepted beyond Reasonable Doubt.
