Wandjoo Festival on reconciliation pathway

Music, dance, theatre, visual arts, storytelling, workshops and bush tucker ceremonies celebrating Indigenous culture will be in full swing at the inaugural Wandjoo Festival this weekend in Jindalee.

Federal Member for Pearce, Christian Porter, has praised this great initiative which serves to deliver the City of Wanneroo’s reconciliation vision.

“The Wandjoo Festival is a great opportunity for all people to come together and celebrate our region’s rich Indigenous culture and history,” Mr Porter said.

“The Wandjoo Festival employs contemporary stage production techniques to convey traditional Indigenous beliefs and customs to large multicultural audiences which fosters community understanding and social cohesion.

“In doing so, they also promote Indigenous businesses, create employment, support and protect local heritage and cultural values, and strengthen community institutions.”

This $19,500 project was funded under the Australian Government’s $641 million Building Better Regions Fund, which is designed to create jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities.
