Federal Member for Pearce, Christian Porter, is calling on local sport and physical activity providers to apply for funding under a national $28.9 million program aimed at encouraging Australians to get more active.

The Liberal Government’s Sport Participation Grants program enables national sporting organisations, national sporting organisations for people with a disability, plus non-government and local government organisations, to apply for grants which serve to improve the engagement of everyday Australian’s in physical activity.

Mr Porter urged sporting groups and local government organisations to create or enhance programs that would help attract people across a wide range of age, ability and location to participate in physical activity and sport.

“We know just how important sport and physical activity is to helping us lead a happy and healthy life,” Mr Porter said.

“Our goal is to get more Australians more active more often, and I encourage all eligible organisations to apply for these grants.”

The program will be managed by Sport Australia, the Australian Government’s leading agency for sport and physical activity.

The Sports Participation Grants follows the recent announcements of the Better Ageing grants and the Community Sport Infrastructure Grants.

Applications close on Monday 18 February 2019. More information is available at: sportaus.gov.au/participationgrants.
