Federal Member for Pearce, Christian Porter, announced today that the Ellen Brook Bridge project has won funding through the Building Better Regions Fund.
Mr Porter said the Ellen Brook Bridge can now become a reality after receiving over $3 million through the Coalition's Building Better Regions Fund.
"The Ellen Brook Bridge project will provide an essential link between fast-growing residential areas to the south of the Ellen Brook and increasing employment areas to the north,” he said.
“The Ellen Brook Bridge project will improve community connections, making it easier for people to get around by reducing congestion and travel times and increasing road safety.
"Together with the City of Swan, we've fought long and hard for this project and it's so great to see it delivered.”
Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said she created the Building Better Regions Fund to help build strong communities for decades to come.
"I aim to help build the kinds of regional communities our children and grandchildren either want to stay in or come back to, and projects like this one do exactly that," Minister Nash said.
“After a competitive merit-based selection process, there are always those who were not successful and are naturally disappointed. We know this and we've got dedicated staff in the Department of Industry to give tailored feedback to each unsuccessful applicant to help improve those applications for next time. They can be contacted on email@example.com."
Minister Nash said she expected to open another round of BBRF before the end of the year.
“This project has been one of the City’s top priorities and we are very pleased with today’s funding announcement. The City and I would like to thank Senator Nash for the Government’s funding commitment and our local members for their support, we look forward to moving ahead with the project,” City of Swan Mayor, Mick Wainwright said.
“A bridge over Ellen Brook will make a huge difference to the community and those who commute locally as it will provide improved access to surrounding roads and suburbs, faster travel times for commuters, help to reduce congestion in the area and create alternate access points during emergency situations such as bushfires.”
Minister Nash will announce the successful applicants for funding under the BBRF’s Community Investments Stream – for projects designed to support a range of local capability-building activities – in the coming months.
