Federal Liberal Government backs Western Australian jobs and infrastructure

Federal Member for Pearce, Christian Porter, today welcomed the Liberal Government’s announcement of $3.2 billion for new infrastructure in Western Australia.

“This significant infrastructure package will provide a major boost to WA’s local economy, with many thousands of jobs expected to be created during construction and a significant amount in Pearce,” Mr Porter said.

“Today’s commitment follows on from last year’s agreement on a $2.3 billion package demonstrating our commitment to providing better infrastructure in WA.”

Mr Porter said the package, which will bring significant benefits to the people of Pearce, includes the following projects:

  • $500 million for the construction of the Morley-Ellenbrook Rail Line;

  • $108 million for the extension of the Mitchell Freeway to Romeo Road;

  • $220 million for the Great Northern Highway Bindoon Bypass;

  • $10 million to plan and develop the business case for the Eastlink WA Orange Route; and

  • $158 million towards the Joondalup Health Campus expansion.

“This investment will deliver jobs, improve road safety and reduce congestion, while also unlocking future development opportunities,” he said.

“It will also help to better connect the fast-growing areas of the north and south of Perth and improve a number of key freight routes.

“Our local community has been critical in making sure these big projects become a reality with real money in a real budget.

“Without their support none of this would have been possible.”

Christian Porter said the Federal and State Governments have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to negotiate a Perth City Deal.

“The City Deal is designed to leverage the Commonwealth’s significant infrastructure investment to deliver reforms across a range of areas,” Mr Porter said.
