Now in its 29th year, the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal is Australia’s largest and longest running appeal, benefitting countless children, adults and seniors at a time where support is needed most.
Today, Federal Member for Pearce, Christian Porter, his wife Jennifer and son Lachlan, visited Kmart at Ocean Keys Shopping Centre in Clarkson to deliver the gifts that they and their Ellenbrook and Canberra team had bought for the Appeal.
“Christmas can be an exceptionally hard time for some families but by placing a gift under the Kmart Wishing Tree you can help to show others that they are not alone,” Mr Porter said.
“It is incredibly heartening to see the local community dig deep and contribute to the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal and help spread the Christmas cheer in Pearce.”
Frank Mirco, Store Manager at Kmart Ocean Keys Shopping Centre, advised that all gifts placed under the Ocean Keys Kmart Wishing Tree will be distributed by the Merriwa branch of the Salvation Army.
“Kmart Ocean Keys is a fantastic supporter of the local community,“ Mr Mirco said.
“I am proud of what the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal achieves each and every year.
“All gifts placed under the Wishing Tree by the local community go straight back into the local community.”
In 2015 the Appeal successfully collected more than 386,000 gifts and is hoping to reach 500,000 in 2016.
“The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal draws to a close on Christmas Eve and I encourage everyone in the Pearce community to make Christmas brighter for those in need by giving to the Appeal,” Mr Porter said.
