Continued financial assistance on its way to Pearce
The Coalition Government’s commitment of over $26 million to the electorate of Pearce over 2015-16 is progressing with the second quarterly payment under the Financial Assistance Grants programme of $3,256,994 on its way.
Federal Member for Pearce, Christian Porter, said that these payments are a core revenue stream received by local governments to ensure a reasonable level of service and infrastructure.
“These grants are extremely important as they are untied which means that they can used for councils’ services, facilities and infrastructure that the community deems to be most important,” Mr Porter said.
“Local councils are in the best position to determine the relative need of their communities, which is why it’s so important that local councils can determine how this funding will be used in the community at a grass roots level, without interference from Canberra.
“Quarterly payments provide a vital cash injection to continue to meet local needs and build upon already ongoing improvements.
“This funding allows the local governments in the Pearce electorate the flexibility to spend the money according to local priorities, which not only builds vital infrastructure but also supports local businesses and create jobs in our community.”
