Residents in the Shire of Chittering now have better access to vital health and community services following the opening of the $2.64million Chittering-Multi-Purpose Community Health Centre in Bindoon.
Federal Member for Pearce, Christian Porter, has welcomed the opening of the facility which was partly funded by the Australian Government.
“This project has delivered an important infrastructure upgrade to our community, the previous arrangements were unsustainable and I am delighted that this centre is now open to the public,” Mr Porter said.
“Residents in this community previously had to visit two separate building to access vital health services.
“This upgrade will provide a convenient location for the whole community by incorporating all current health services in the one building.
“Residents will now be able to go to the doctor for a check-up and simply go across the hall to receive other allied health services.”
Mr Porter said that the Australian Government is investing in hundreds of projects like these through initiatives such as the $350million Community Development Grants Programme and the $1billion National Stronger Regions Fund.
“These initiatives deliver funding to regional communities to ensure that they can develop and prosper,” he said.
“The Coalition Government has shown a real commitment to delivering real results in regional communities.
“Regional communities such as ours deserve access to the same level of health care services as major cities and I am very encouraged by the support the Coalition Government has shown to our community.”
The works on the Chittering-Multi-Purpose Community Health Centre includes the delivery of five consulting rooms, two treating rooms, a dietician’s room, a child health service room, respite care facilities, a training or meeting room, office space and a physiotherapy room.
The project was jointly funded by the Australian Government, Western Australian Government and the Shire of Chittering. The Australian Government and Western Australian Government committed $450,000 and $1.44 million respectively.
