Safer Streets in Pearce – Round 2 deadline extended
Federal Member for Pearce, Christian Porter, has announced that the application deadline for Round 2 of the Safer Streets Programme has been extended by two weeks to 2pm (AEST) Wednesday 2 March 2016.
“The closing date has been extended to ensure all local government organisations and eligible incorporated not-for profit organisations have the opportunity to support their local community by implementing new safety and crime prevention initiatives,” Mr Porter said.
“This initiative has already benefited the Pearce community – under Round 1 of the Safer Streets programme the Coalition Government committed $250,000 towards closed circuit television cameras for the Ellenbrook Town Centre which are soon to be installed.
“Under Round 2 of the programme, the Coalition Government will invest up to $29.4million in individual grants across Australia and I look forward to seeing projects in Pearce that will help reduce fear of crime and contribute to greater community safety and resilience across our community.
“I encourage potential applicants to submit their project applications as soon as possible to ensure Pearce has the best chance of receiving funding from this vital community safety initiative.
“The programme is already working to improve community safety by preventing, deterring and detecting crime and antisocial behavior.
“Having worked as a State Prosecutor before entering politics, crime prevention and community safety is an issue that I feel very strongly about.
“Importantly, the Safer Streets Programme uses proceeds of crime – confiscated from criminals – to fund these local crime prevention projects.”
