Regional artists get a boost in Pearce

Christian Porter, Federal Member for Pearce, has welcomed the Coalition Government’s announcement to provide funding for regional tours of visual arts and support for arts and cultural experiences at regional festivals.

Mr Porter said that the Festivals Australia and Visions of Australia regional funding programmes are now open for applications.

“Up to $2.4million is available each year through the Visions of Australia programme and up to $1.2million is available through the Festivals Australia programme,” he said.

Funding is available for projects and tours that increase access to and participation in the arts and cultural heritage for Australians living in regional and remote communities.

“This funding will bring great arts and cultural heritage experiences to our community, as well as enabling our local artists and arts organisations to share our stories around Australia,” Mr Porter said.

“The funding is designed to promote Australia’s arts and culture sector by supporting artistic production, protecting and strengthening cultural heritage and expression, and encouraging opportunities for public engagement with arts and culture.

“These programmes are particularly beneficial to Pearce, creating an opportunity to enliven our rural areas; I encourage our outstanding local artists and arts organisations to apply.”

Festivals Australia and Visions of Australia are administered by the Ministry for the Arts and enable artists and organisations to shape Australia’s cultural landscape, increase cultural diversity and inspire, educate and entertain audiences across Australia.

Two funding rounds will take place each year.

Applications to Festivals Australia and Visions of Australia close on Friday 9 October 2015, more information is available via the Ministry for the Arts website: http://arts.gov.au.
