Christian Porter MLA, BATEMAN, WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Welcome to my website. This site is intended for members of the community to use for accessing information and assistance.
I made my entrance into politics in February 2008 when I was elected to the Western Australian State Parliament in a by-election for the seat of Murdoch. After initially being sworn into Parliament, I was immediately appointed to the front bench as Shadow Attorney General.
My political career to date has been fast paced and after being a Member of Parliament for approximately 6 months the State General Election was held. I was again fortunate to have the support of the people within my electorate and was re-elected to the WA Parliament, this time as the Member for the newly created seat of Bateman (a seat that replaced the abolished seat of Murdoch).
On 23 September 2008 as part of the new Liberal/National Government I was sworn into the positions of Attorney General and Minister for Corrective Services. In making the decision to enter Parliament I had one thing in mind, to provide good and stable governance. My wife Jennifer and I have, I think, pretty much the same problems and expectations as many people in the electorate. Shortly after my election to Parliament we moved to our new house in Bateman and while we both love living in this great community, we have a big mortgage and we pay a lot to the Government in taxes, fees and charges (not to mention stamp duty). In return we expect the Government to efficiently deliver high quality services.
As I have continued to go about the community meeting people and organisations, I ask myself the same questions I did before I went into Parliament. Why is it that during the greatest boom in the State’s history, the great public schools in my electorate are in a state of physical disrepair? Why are there not enough teachers? Why is there endless queuing at emergency departments and why do elective surgery waiting lists not get substantially shorter? Why is it that anti-social behaviour and serious offending are having a greater and greater impact on the lives of the average suburban Western Australian?
As Attorney General my aim is to implement measures to make our streets safer and protect our police officers. Such measures will not only greatly benefit the electorate of Bateman but Western Australia in its entirety. I will help to ensure that time, energy and resources are focused in the practical areas of health, education, housing affordability and law and order; where the greatest positive difference to people’s lives can be achieved.
I am committed to ensuring the people of my electorate get what they want from Government, not what Government thinks they should get.
If you feel that I can assist you in any way please contact my Electorate Office where Kahla, Zach and Lauren are all ready to help.
